New Lead Minister Announced!

On June 5 the congregation unanimously voted to Call the Rev. Steve Van Kuiken as Lead Minister for Pullman Community Congregational United Church of Christ.  The vote followed Steve’s sermon titled “Becoming Ourselves” as well as a meet and greet reception on Saturday night at the church. Steve, his wife Jenn Hackman, and daughter Isa will be moving to the Palouse in late August or early September.

Steve shared this after the vote.  “I’m very grateful to be part of CCUCC, the progressive church on the Palouse! I look forward to many years of working with this loving, intelligent, and spiritual community.  As we ask questions and seek truth, justice and awareness of the Sacred Reality together.”

In addition to his work for LGBTQ equality, Steve has also been involved with worker rights, economic justice, immigration, and affordable housing, and has interests in mysticism, meditation and interspirituality.  He has taught bioethics, co-founded a religion-labor organization, and has worked as a social worker at a halfway house for federal inmates. He is the father of three children, ages 29 26 and 5.

Steve enjoys outdoor activities and is an avid rower. He enjoys a good India Pale Ale, along with good conversation. He and his family look forward to exploring the Palouse and discovering all it has to offer.
The search committee wishes to express their sincere thanks to the congregation for your support, trust, faith and prayers over these many months.  Over the past six months we have reviewed many, many candidate profiles, conducted numerous phone calls, and considered skills such as worship and preaching, congregational care, administration, progressive Christian values, social justice work, and outreach to the wider community.  As a committee we met Steve and his family, shared worship and fellowship, and discussed many aspects of ministry, theology, and our church.  We feel confident that Steve is an excellent fit for this congregation.  Please join us in welcoming Steve and his family to CCUCC in August.

In Peace,
